Chaenomeles speciosa - Japanese Flowering Quince.

Always a standout in spring! Vigorous deciduous shrub to about 2.5m tall, with spiny branches and glossy, oval shaped leaves. Clusters of scarlet red flowers appearing before foliage re-emerges followed by green 'quinces', similar to a small apple. Can be shaped well with pruning. Very hardy. Full sun to semi-shade. 150mm pot.
